This is a dialogue interview conducted with Mr. Jonathan M. Chu, one of the most well-known American film directors, producers, and screenwriters. Mr. Jon is the director of the "Crazy Rich Asians" film. He is the first-ever director to produce a major Hollywood studio featuring a majority cast of Asian descent in a modern setting.

Contemporary film is a major study of key developments in cinema over the last thirty years. It is the sort of transformation of film that encounters the society, the sacredness, the subjective, and the presence of the camera. Contemporary films are meaningfully created to reflect a distinctive match in our own cultures, critical social engagement, and the delirium of form. In general, Contemporary films are firmly produced by today’s artists, which are 21st-century creators. It allows us to reflect upon our society and issues that are relevant to ourselves and the world around us.

Crazy Rich Asians is a love story that is on another level of the film. It is not just about love alone, but it is also about family, loyalty, being rich, and being Asian. Beyond actors in the movie being diverse in more than one way, each actor also portrays the deep humanity of their characters through hopes, dreams, relationship problems, and longing for love and acceptance. The director wanted to create a more fleshed-out and more realistic resemblance of Asians in the real world.

In this context, there were probably a lot of mistranslations and misjudgments in terms of how different races of people treat Asians. What do you think about the racism that shown in this movie?

“Well, we made a fun movie, and people connected with it. Precedent is the biggest change agent in this town. The real thing about the movie wasn’t that it was some brilliant movie that changed things. It gave a pathway”.

Jonathan M. Chu

The movie depicts different stereotypes about Asian Materialism, how Asians are being treated and we are hoping to make a movement to end racism, the generalization of people that are based on conspicuous groups, reducing Asian cultural values, and experiencing to one stereotype.

The film really touches on a sensitive topic of specific cultures and races. The film representation of diverse culture and value, whether or not it’s a group or another group that is presented on the screen in the mainstream popular culture, does have a direct and alternative impact on whether that group is normalized or the effect it could have on every day’s lives. For instance, how Asian kids are being treated at school, the bullies, and ignorance.

Mr. Jonathan has also added that he hopes this film will send a message to all the viewers and fans around the world about these social issues.
